IDL Tools T-10 and the Leatherman Squirt P4 side by side. These are two pocket pliers we have been reviewing. The two are about the same size when open and weight. But when closed the Leatherman Squirt P4 is slimer and more comfortable. The Leatherman Squirt P4 is just under 1-inch wide, 2-1/4-inches long, 4 inches long when open, 1/2-inch thick. The IDL Tools T-10 is 1-1/4-inch wide, just over 2-inches long 4 inches long when open and just over 1/4-inch thick. The IDL Tools T-10 weighs 1.8 ounces, the Leatherman Squirt P4 Pocket Pliers weighs 2.1 ounces. The IDL Tools T-10 jaw opens wider to a little over an inch, the Leatherman Squirt P4 open to only a bit less than an inch.

I've seen these drop leg medical kits being worn at schools I've attended as well as worn by some combat medics, so I've been interested in them. Recently I traded some gear and part of the deal was an empty drop leg kit you see here. I've decided to start wearing it when I shoot so I'm deciding what's best to put in it.

We saw these keys and took a few photos of the Streamlight Nanolight. This is a little over Three Months since we took the first photos of this light when it was new. After three months of daily carry the black finish is getting worn off, but the light still works and has not gone off on its own. We will keep checking on on this light to see how it holds up

The last LED fell apart so it was time for a new small keychain LED. This tiny all aluminum Nanolight LED looks like it will work well. It is under $10 so it is not a large investment, and it seems rugged enough to last longer than the plastic one I used before this one.

2009 SHOT Show Day Four

We take a first look at the e+LITE headlamp from Petzl.

This is feature packed, well made LED light that weighs in at just 28 grams, has a weatherproof storage case and even a signal whistle

I was impressed as soon as I opened the package with this emergency headlamp.

It seems very well made and ready for rugged use.
We plan to put this light to the test over the next few months,including a trip to Cental America and various outings around the US.

We had a chance to review some EDC gear from the EDC Depot.com online store. The items arrived in about two days, were packaged well and nothing was damaged. No extra packaging to throw away either. And a FREE spy capsule (pill fob) !!!

We received a TOPs Pocket Size Survival Saw and a Cord Lock Light made by Black Crater. I opened the box and set out threw contents for this photo, and then there was a blur of hands and I had to wait a while to get the items back for more photos.

We have used bulk Alkaline batteries for many years now. They are fairly inexpensive and seem to work well in my digital cameras which are the largest user of AA batteries used by us daily. We take photographs for a living so we use our digital cameras every day and go through about a battery a day each month. Alkaline AA batteries cost us about $10 for 24 (More or less depending on Sales, where we buy, etc) this is about 42 cents each or about $15 a month.

4th Annual Tucson Old West Round-Up & Auction

This is an overview and review of this wide mouth / soft side style of bag for a home repair tool kit. I am not sure of the manufacturer, but this style of bag is very useful, The many inside pockets allow tools to stand upright and accessible when needed. This bag is comfortable to carry so it's useful at home and away and it offers a lot of extra space for specialty tools, parts or whatever.

I saw the instructions for this on the internet and figured I would give it a try. I was not about to buy a French Knitting Spool so I made one with some spare parts (a PVC fitting, some chop sticks and some twine). I read that the braid (knit) could be done with
two or more posts along the spool, so I started with 3, it worked easily so I added more pegs to end up with six. At that point I glued the pegs in place so the knitting spool stays together for a while. This process could be useful occasionally

A few times each year a local school in Tucson, Arizona auctions off their used equipment. There is typically a few hundred square feet of equipment, computers, tools, surplus supplies and even vehicles. These had been live auctions in the past, but are now silent auctions. Bidders offer their best price for each item they are interested in and the high bid is the winner.

Building an AR15 is a lot different than some other rifles. Most of the components are able to be easily changed and upgraded.

Some special tools are useful for keeping tool marks off the gun and parts and being sure that the job is done correctly. You will want a vise, an AR15 vise block, snap ring pliers, punches, an AR15 armorers wrench, grease, and of course the AR15 parts you will need.

Why do this?
In this case, the original barrel was quite large and heavy. Also the twist was not what the shooter wanted (1 in 9). So a new lighter barrel is being added to this AR15 upper receiver with a 1 in 7 twist

This Benchmade 710 is one of the original knifes that introduced the AXIS lock. The first 200 or so knives were built and sold with aluminum handles. Ths is one of the second version which had scales (handles) made of G10. The 710 was the knife that introduced the AXIS lock. The AXIS lock is a very easy to use knife lock that can be operated with either hand. It's strong and fast to open and close.

Many say that 550 cord is about the most usefull thing to have in a survival kit. It can be used for building shelter, starting fire, catching food and repairs among endless other uses. Rope has always been useful, and nylon 550 cord improvements make it very adaptable. It is also very common and easy to find at low cost.
